It’s hard to believe the holidays are once again upon us—although they’re going to look a lot different from those in years past.

With coronavirus rates on the rise across the U.S., health and government officials are advising people to maintain social distancing and not gather in large groups. Still, if you’re committed to creating a holiday quarantine pod with just a couple other people—isolating before and after the event, and maybe even getting tested—you might be able to put that guest room into action after all.

And even if that’s not in the cards, this is a great time to refresh your guest room—while those loved ones are on your mind, but not actually there to get in the way. You might even enjoy a new space to get away within your own home! And next year, it’ll be ready to welcome visitors.

Like we do every week, we’ve scouted the hottest design trends on Instagram—this time with a focus on inspiring and creative ideas for guest rooms. So if your guest space needs a little refresh, check out our five favorites below.

    1. Loft sleeping

Got a small bedroom and too many guests to squeeze in? Enter this loft sleeping look from @prepsea.

“Loft beds are a great addition to a guest room,” says Doreen Amico-Sorell of Sorell Interiors. “Not only are they on-trend, but they offer extra sleeping space for guests staying with children. They’re also a great solution for sleepovers and having all of the children bunk together. Either way, the kids will love them and they’re a win-win solution.”

Get the look: Give your guests even more space to spread out this season by shopping for this Demosthenes twin-over-twin, L-shape bunk bed.

    2. Woven side table

Tell your old wooden tables to step aside—there’s a new nightstand in town, and it’s the light and whimsical one we see in this look from @mcchills_nest.

“Handwoven textures, rattan, and cane details on furniture are making a huge comeback this season,” says Amanda Amato-Scotto of AMA Designs & Interiors. “To create a warm and cozy guest bedroom, supplement traditional nightstands with natural woven end tables, which have a more artisanal feel. The material lends itself toward a variety of design styles—from coastal to midcentury modern depending on the weave.”

    3. Cognac upholstered headboard

If your guest bedroom never quite got that finishing touch (like, ahem, a stylish headboard), now’s the time. Headboards can make or break bedroom vibes, and this cognac upholstered one from @jcdesign1.1 is definitely making it when it comes to the overall look and feel of this space.

“The rich look of an upholstered headboard becomes even more elevated when done in a shade of cognac like this one,” says Amico-Sorell. “Cognac is just one of those colors that exudes chic yet welcoming—and who wouldn’t want that for their guest room. Bring the space to luxe levels by selecting a headboard in supple leather.”

Get the look: Rather than breaking the bank with a new bed frame, get yourself an affordable wooden headboard, then complete the look with these Arne leather cushions in saddle.

    4. End-of-bed chaise

Extra seating is always welcome in a guest room, but nothing does it quite as well as this end-of-bed chaise featured by @mmlighting.

“A guest room should be welcoming, no matter what decor is chosen,” says Amico-Sorell. “Nothing makes a room feel that way more than a bench or chaise at the foot of the bed. They’re useful and a decorative focal point—as a prominent fixture in the room.”

Get the look: Add some extra cozy seating for your visitors this season with this Alessandro bench.

    5. Bedside globe lamps

Forgo traditional bedside lamps, and look instead at these gorgeous bedside globe lamps featured by @thenorthernhome_.

With just the right amount of functional light and ambiance, these modern fixtures have the power to completely transform your guest space.

“Bedside lights are a must in a guest room,” says Amico-Sorell. “Globe lamps do this well, while also adding the ability to enhance almost any style of decor.”
